All aspects of our academy, including the technical development, coaching staff, training routines, and personal growth will be aligned with the FC Barcelona methodology which has brought so much success to the club in the recent years. The players will train under the same vision, mission and focus as the club’s youth teams. The FC Barcelona philosophy will be implemented on all the features of our program.Bringing this academy Ottawa is a milestone in the ever growing football culture present in the country and we hope to contribute to the development of the sport by introducing players to our particular style of play which has become an essential piece of the club’s identity.

Our aim is to teach the players the concepts of football encompassed in the FC Barcelona methodology in order for them to be able to deal successfully with sporting challenges in the future, while also transmitting the values that are so representative of FC Barcelona such as tolerance, respect, solidarity, friendship, fair play, integration, commitment, effort and happiness.


Our development will empower them to successfully overcome future sporting challenges while simultaneously instilling the personal values which are so representative of FC Barcelona such as tolerance, respect, solidarity, friendship, fair play, integration, effort and happiness.



Aitor Fernández

Project Director - FC BARCELONA

Aitor Fernández is the Local Project Director for the Barça Academy Ottawa. Aitor was coaching in the BARÇA Academy in Barcelona before his arrival to Ottawa. He has the UEFA Pro licence, the highest certificate of coaching in soccer. He has experience as a coach and coordinator in different countries such as: Spain, Italy, Switzerland, USA, China, Australia, Pakistan, Palestine and now in Canada.

His mission as Local Project Director is to reproduce the BARÇA Academy model from Barcelona and adapt it to Ottawa. The values that represent him the most are Teamwork, Humility and Respect. His favourite player is Andrés Iniesta.

Hernani Eleuterio

Project Manager - BCN SPORTS CANADA

Hernani Eleuterio is BCN SPORTS project manager for the Barça Academy Ottawa. He started as a coach with the Barça Academy Ottawa program in its inception and through time became the academy manager. Hernani has assumed the position of Project Manager as of April 2017.  He brings to the academy drive , passion and ambition.

Juninho Da Silva

Technical Coordinator

Edivaldo Sarafim da Silva Junior (born April 15, 1974) is a retired Brazilian association football player. Using the name Juninho Da Silva, played professionally in Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Tunisia, Puerto Rico and the United States.

Juninho da Silva started his career at the base of EC Vitoria of Bahia, Brazil in 1989. In 1992 he moved to play for CR Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Da Silva accumulates several brazilian clubs and abroad in his career among them Independiente Petrolero Sucre in Bolivia, CAB, Tunisia. After spend the season with EC Novo Hamburgo in Brazil, he signed with the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USL First Division in 2004, the Rochester Rhinos of USL-1 in 2005 and 2006. In the summer of 2008, Junhinho signed with Guaynabo Fluminense FC of the new Puerto Rico Soccer League. Then, in 2009, he signed with Club Atletico River Plate Ponce, also from the Puerto Rico Soccer League. Juninho currently lives in Ottawa, Canada and is coordinator of coaches at the Barcelona Academy franchise

Joé Fournier

Coaching Development Manager

Joé is the Director of the soccer academy program at ÉSP Louis-Riel (high-school) since its
creation in 2005. He’s a National B License trained coach by Canada Soccer with over 30 years
of coaching experience at various levels and age groups in the region. He’s been a coach with
Barça Academy Ottawa since it’s opening in 2016. His passion and attention to detail have
helped further develop student-athletes for the next level on the soccer field, as well as gave
them the necessary tools to be successful in their future endeavors.

Mohamed Al Bira

Goalkeeping Coach

Mohamed Bira was born in Tripoli,the capital city of Libya in 1981  and started playing soccer at the age of 10. He started for Libyan club Itihad Club as a goalkeeper. When he was 17, he joined the Youth Libyan National Soccer Team as a goal keeper. He later on represented Libya with U23 Libyan Olympic Soccer Team.

With the Libyan National Team he played in the CAF Champions League and African Qualifiers for the World Cup.

In 2004, he joined the biggest soccer club in Libyan Premier League, Al Ahly Tripoli. In the first year as a professional player, from a position of a goalie, he scored in Libyan Classico a historic goal in 94’ min to tie the game 1:1 in front of 80,000 fans. This goal remains in the history of Libyan soccer until today and made Bira known across the country.

During his career Bira has been trained under coaches from Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Italy and Croatia. He faced  top level players such as: Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto, Nwankwo Kanu and Obafemi Martins.

He is a  proud member of the Ottawa Academy as a Goalkeeper & Assistant Coach.We are excited to have him share his skills and years of professional experience.


The programs are structured to ensure that every coach plays a close role in each player’s development and the training sessions encourage a high degree of participation. As a result each team is composed by a maximum of 12 players.

The Barça Academy Ottawa employs the same training methods used by the youth teams at the Club, which consist of a group of progressive and interrelated exercises, adapted to each training level or stage.

The Barça Academy Ottawa consists of different training phases according to the different age groups and a supplementary skill based program (DEVELOPMENT).
